Last summer as I stood in the jellyfish archway at the Seattle Aquarium during a vacation I couldn’t help but ponder about the humble jellyfish.
Stay with me here; they are hunters and catch what they eat… only they don’t have the ability to actively FIND their food.
They just drift along and eat what comes across their path.
Business can be like this. You can stand still and wait for business to find you – and you will get a few clients this way…
If you aren’t actively out “hunting” and letting the world know where and how to find you, and how you help them, then YOU are a jellyfish.
But are these your ideal clients?
Are they projects you want?
Are you making enough money or the great income you really want?
I know I’m not a shark. I don’t want to build a business to eat all other businesses and be the top of the heap. I don’t want a big corporation with hundreds of people working for me.
But I am moving along under my own power, with a game plan. I like to think of myself more like a turtle: in a great big playground, moving along with intention and plenty of side trips, and a long life.
So are my clients!
The shift from “reactive” (jellyfish) to “proactive” (turtle) doesn’t have to hurt… but it must be conscious.
If you think you’re drifting…let’s chat.
I’m here to help –
