Easy or Hard?
The difference isn’t in the actual work it takes – it’s what you make of the work.
It’s what happens in the space between your ears that makes it a beast of a challenge or a graceful acceptance of the path ahead.
Last week I had the opportunity to watch Iron Man Triathlon athletes train for the race in Kona, Hawaii. It’s the Big Kahuna of endurance races.
I was so intrigued by what they were undertaking I did a bit of research and I want to offer you some insights about taking on building your business like an Iron Man competitor.
* Some people take training on with ease, while others struggle mentally. Don’t compare yourself to others, but understand that you’ve got to deal with the mental part to be successful.
* A “training plan” is a progressive thing. So, well, yes, have a plan!
But understand that if you aren’t out doing Live Streams daily and going to 10 networking events a month right now, you probably aren’t going to be successful to just put together a plan where you start doing it all tomorrow. Build up to it!
* A plan is not limited to the tactical “stuff” for athletes (how much to swim, bike and run) but also includes where to get coaching, what to eat to fuel your body, and getting training buddies to surround yourself with people to support you in your journey.
For a business owner, this means plans for marketing, sales and delivery/product, but also training for you, coaching support for an outside view and fine tuning what you are doing, and surrounding yourself with people who will root for you and help you when you are down.
And if we’re going to talk about these athletes in terms of what it takes to complete one of these amazing races – then let’s by all means also talk about celebrating reaching the end… because even if you don’t come in first, or even early in the race, just completing it is worth celebrating. Have a plan for that to – because at the end of six months, you will deserve it if you really worked your plan and showed up.
So – if you are building your business, here’s some “Iron Man Training” questions:
Do you have a progressive plan in place for the next six months?
Do you have a coach or mentor to work your plan with, or do you understand how having one can help you achieve your plan?
Do you have a “team” to support you in your journey?
Do you have a way to overcome the mental gremlins that may interfere with your plan?
As a coach, I am here to help my clients build plans, work their plans, and most of all, tame the gremlins that get in the way of achieving their plans.
