After 25 years working in, and running, small businesses and 15 years of soul searching “personal development” (of all varieties), I finally figured it out – I’d been doing it all wrong.

First, business and personal development are not two separate things. It sounds simple – and kind of like a big “duh”, but it’s really taken me a long time to see how I had kept the two boxes separate. But magic happens when I sprinkle in my “secret sauce” of living my life with love and intention with my business goals and efforts.

Second, change happens, but it doesn’t have to hurt. I struggle to bite my tongue when I hear someone talk about how hard they’ve worked, how much they’ve struggled, how they’ve walked across hot coals (I’m not kidding here) and suffered for their accomplishments. It’s like struggle gives us permission to get what we really want and deserve in life. We learn this lesson from a young age here in America: it’s embedded in our culture. I call this the “if it didn’t hurt, you didn’t deserve it” or “the child birth” story. Reality is, it’s not true: change can come in a flash of insight and without any pain what so ever, we just have to learn to be willing to accept it with grace and ease. It may take time, or good old fashioned elbow grease, to bring your vision to the world, but that doesn’t have to be painful.

Those two ideas combined have led me to create a whole new paradigm for business modeling. I’ve given up coaching “tips and tricks” to move someone to reach their goals. If it hurts, don’t do it that way: find a new way. There are plenty of coaches who are really skilled with the strategies of business growth in the traditional sense.

I want to work with clients who see magical possibilities in growing a business with love and passion and effort that doesn’t really seem like “work.” My clients love what they do, and the people they help, and see their way to inspiration instead of perspiration.
